"Through my painting, I navigate between personal feelings and feminist thought; I highlight my fascination with the details of everyday life, with shimmer and transparency. My work is colourful; it dwells in the details and invites you to slow down so you can gently explore the canvases, let yourself be guided by the light and analyse the layers."

A ‘gesticulated’ talk combines theoretical knowledge (‘cold’ knowledge) with lived experience (‘warm’ knowledge); the idea is to address a social and political issue in order to raise awareness of the subject, but also to bring about change! It involves taking to the stage to share a message rooted in personal experience, presented in a way that is both moving and illuminating regarding the issues facing our society.
Summary:
There are times when we feel the urge to look at the ugly, the difficult, the things we struggle to admit because we’d rather tell ourselves, ‘that’s not us’. In this post-#MeToo era, with sisterhood held aloft as a banner, I therefore suggest we pause for a moment to examine the issues of female rivalry. Whether on screen or in our own lives, what is the reality and significance of this phenomenon? Where does it come from? How does it manage to permeate even the most intimate spheres of our lives?
*
From the stereotypes we’ve internalised about women competing with one another, right through to romantic dramas, what is really at stake when a relationship between two women* is under strain? Why am I expected to hate my boyfriend’s exes and my ex’s girlfriend? And how do I get out of this?
SPOILER ALERT: we’ll be discussing patriarchy, emancipation and sisterhood. But we’ll do so by sticking together!
Tonight, you’ll be Daphné’s employers. She declares this income and therefore pays VAT, social security contributions and other charges on the amount paid. Which option will you choose?
